CASTLE TONES LINEUP………..
je suis
JE SUIS ANIMAL  are part-British and part-Norwegian. Conceived at art school in the UK, the band settled in Oslo in 2004 and began shaping a sound — melodic, catchy and dreamy. Their fetching mix of 80s indie and playful 60s psychedelica results in striking and uncannily beautiful tales of murder mysteries, Nordic explorers, and primitive art. Attracting comparisons to C-86, My Bloody Valentine, Stereolab and Nico, Je Suis Animal’s debut album Self-Taught Magic From a Book (out now on the Lost & Lonesome recording co) is full of disarming melody and hypnotic instrumentation.
ned
NED COLLETTE & WIREWALKER are quite the globetrotters. After a hefty & productive stint in Europe they return from New York (where they’ve been mixing their much anticipated new album) to bring one of their increasingly muscular wig-out performances of roadtested new material (along with a smattering of old favourites) to Castle Tones.
trio
KES TRIO are renowned for their thrillingly mercurial live performances; no two shows are ever the same, but you can count on a mesmerising display of provocative, creative songwriting, singular musical aesthetics and expansive artistic vision. Hopefully we’ll have some copies of the eagerly awaited new Kes Band II album on the merch desk.
laura
LAURA JEAN is a Melbourne-based songwriter that has released two critically acclaimed albums, Our Swan Song and Eden Land. She is well known around Australia for her unique and detailed compositions and arrangements, as well as for her contributions in Mistletone’s own Kes Band. At Castle Tones LJ will be presenting her new songs on electric guitar joined by musical accomplices Biddy Connor on viola and piano accordion, and Jen Sholakis on drums and guitar.
lee
With members from Ninety Nine, The Nation Blue, Zond and Sodastream, LEE MEMORIAL are an eclectic mix — sometimes loud, other times quiet, and occasionally ambling along somewhere in between. They have just released their debut album, the lives of lee memorial on Dot Dash Recordings and will be appearing at Castle Tones as a three piece.
jessica
JESSICA SAYS is the moniker of 21 year old Melbourne singer-songwriter Jessica Venables, a singer and multi-instrumentalist (cello, piano and keyboards) who has lent her talents to the likes of New Buffalo, Jens Lekman, Micah P. Hinson, Sly Hats, and Luluc. Her debut album We Need To Talk was produced by Melbourne indie luminary Geoff O’Connor and features ten gorgeous songs written and arranged by Jessica combining her incredibly impressive vocals, cello, piano and keyboard playing.
dick
DICK DIVER have been described as sounding something like the imaginary child that would result from a Go-Betweens/ Television cheeky romp; then again, they’ve also been described as: shit, but cute.
twerps
THE TWERPS formed one sunny Sunday afternoon at Marty’s gaf. Marty plucked a strand of hair from his big head, tied it to a branch and began to strum. Rick had thicker hair, so he used his own to make a bass guitar. And Pat… well Pat beat his chest until it hurt before deciding to dust of ye olde drum kit. A few short weeks later Julia road in on her mustang and demanded to be heard. She shreds they said! The rest is recent history. Matching C86 twee-pop nous with dreamy strum-alongs, The Twerps are always a completely winning proposition.

frankie

FRANCIS PLAGNE, recently returned from a period overseas, returns for Castletones. He and the band, featuring Ned Collette, Joe Talia, Connal Parsley and Anthony Pateras will run through some old songs, some new songs and some other things.
anonymeye
ANONYMEYE, the nom de plume of Brisbane’s Andrew Tuttle, reconfigures country and folk musics within an abstract sonic framework, utilising electronic and acoustic instrumentation including acoustic guitar, signal processing, synthesisers, and effects units. Anonymeye straddles and blurs boundaries between improvisation and composition, experimentation and pop, acoustic and electronic, rural landscapes and urban landscapes. Anonymeye’s new album The Disambiguation Of Anonymeye is out now through the sound&fury label.
mini
MINIATURE SUBMARINES is primarily a recording project for Mark Nelson as an outlet for songs deemed way to pop and pretty for his regular band, rock review THE STABS.  Inevitably a live group has since been formed featuring Alex Jarvis, Chris Smith and Duncan Blachford who all seem to play as a house band for each member’s respective solo expeditions.  The debut single for Miniature Submarines features Monika Fikerle playing drums and is set for an August release on Sydney label Rice Is Nice.
charlene
SCOTT & CHARLENE’S WEDDING features the dream machine lineup of Craig Dermody (Lindsey Low Hand, Spider Vomit), Luke Horton (Love of Diagrams, Breaking the Law), Dion Nania (Panel Of Judges, Hi God People, Golden Lifestyle Band, Inevitable Orbit) and Jarrod Quarrel (St Helens, Lost Animal, New Season)… a match made in heaven.
